Science for the Rest of Us

The Brief

Turning science into a good read is its own kind of content strategy. The Sonora Desert Museum needed editorial copywriting that could make animal enrichment feel fascinating to an everyday audience — not just the experts.

The Strategy

Science writing has an accessibility problem — the instinct to be accurate can crowd out the instinct to be interesting. As a freelance copywriter working in the editorial space, I wrote this feature for genuine curiosity rather than expertise, trusting that if the story was compelling enough, readers would follow wherever it led.

This is what content strategy looks like in an editorial context: knowing your audience well enough to meet them where they are. Respecting your readers’ intelligence doesn’t mean assuming their prior knowledge.
